Needs

“With our new Dutch-style cheese production line design, we wanted to achieve a higher level of technological advancement with even more precise cheese portioning. From this, our customers can minimise losses of the final product, and at the same time deliver a product to the market with a perfectly measured weight, without reducing the overall efficiency of the machine.” Said Krzysztof Kisiel, Design Department Manager at Tewes-Bis.

“For this reason, we needed a solution for the cheese cutting module that would be able to perfectly control the cutting speed, its stroke and force. Pneumatic solutions have so far provided us with satisfactory results but have not allowed us to exceed a certain performance level. Therefore, we decided to look for a business partner who could provide us with such a solution based on servomotor technology, while at the same time meeting our control requirements and, most importantly, meet the stringent demands for hygiene and corrosion resistance when in contact with cleaning media.

“Due to the fact that these cheese production lines are very complex multi-technology machines, we were looking for a partner who would provide us with pre-assembled, plug-in solutions, already tested before shipment, and save us time. Camozzi Automation turned out to be such a company.

“The key for us was Camozzi Automation's commitment to designing an actuator from scratch in accordance with our guidelines and provide a ready-made, dedicated solution that perfectly met our needs. The design stage was preceded by performance calculations, expected lifetime data and delivery of several 3D models. Together with the Camozzi Automation’s design department, we discussed every detail introduced to ensure corrosion resistance. As a result, we were 100% convinced that the proposed solution would meet our needs, and the line offered by us would provide much greater accuracy and efficiency than the existing ones."

Solution

“The seemingly simple solution of an electric actuator driven by a servo motor did not appear too complicated at first, even with Tewes-Bis’ request for the motor to be Profinet. None the less it proved to be a real challenge to adapt one of our standard solutions and still meet the requirements of the dairy processing sector. The most important of these was the high degree of protection required – at least IP65 – plus the key structural elements of the actuator needed to be corrosion resistant. We used stainless steel components and specific surface treatments for aluminium. The entire actuator also had to have as few recesses as possible where dirt could accumulate.

The combination of this with our extensive knowledge of electric actuators and with cooperation from reliable servo motor manufacturers allowed us to offer an application-ready, dedicated solution that accurately meets the needs of our customers. At the same time, working together with Mr. Krzysztof, we increased our portfolio of solutions." said Daniel Raczkowski, Application Development Manager at Camozzi Automation.

Result

Working on this project has brought many benefits to both companies. It was a perfect example of ‘win-win’ cooperation. The end user received a cheese production line of the highest quality, performance and reliability but in addition, Tewes-Bis can now offer similar advanced lines to other cheese producers around the world. This is underpinned by Camozzi Automation’s global presence. Going forward, all such lines can have increased and precise control of the portioning process used for the final product. In addition, this electromechanical solution enables much easier installation and control, reducing the commissioning time of each machine as well as expanding Camozzi Automation’s experience and satisfied customer-base.
